Only IF you have weight on your line when "pulling". No extra weight ahead of the crank & the amount of line out needed to get to those depths is greatly increased. And you have to take into account the first sentence on the chart : "This only works when your line is going down at close to a 45deg angle." Then you have to take into account that it's only the line BELOW the water that is counted as "the length of line out".

I "pulled" cranks with 2oz weights, from the back of a buddy's boat, running at 1.8mph & using 7' rods pointing UP at about a 45deg angle .... with 50' of line out ... and I guarantee you that my crank was NOT running 30ft deep, since almost half the length of line out was "in the air" between the rod tip and the water's surface.

OK ... that should be pretty close, then, as long as your rod tips were close to the water's surface.

I'm not sure what amount of weight that chart is based on ... but I simply multiply the length of line out (below the water's surface) by 0.6 (in my head) and use that to determine bait depth. 1oz weight with jigs at 1mph or 2oz weight with cranks at 1.5mph generally keeps my line close to the 45deg angle and I can count on every 5ft of line out will put the bait 3ft deep (approx).

So 20' of line out means the bait is ~ 12ft deep, by my calculations.

That chart should indicate the actual amount of weight used & at what speed they got those depths ... but like most generalized charts, it's an "approximate" calculation (as is mine !!)

James ....after you let out your given length of line....make a guess of length of line from rod tip to the water and let that much more out. Yes that chart will work off the back with a 3 oz. Weight. I just use the pushing method when I am going to be making sharper turns so i wont have as much line out to hinder that. Also i use the pushing method for running shallow running baits deeper. Other than that i usually pull cranks that run about like a bandit 300 with out weights and use a line out depth chart for that and still allow for the extra line from rod tip to the water. I use line counter reels.
