    Default For sure Complicated

I went on a little adventure with a bud yesterday to a spot I have not visited in 2 years ,we met up with the local crew and the fish were supposed to know and cooperate . This was not the case . the 6 of us struggled to get bit . the portable graph said they were under us in numbers .
I tried about 20 different colors and sizes and ONLY one bait got bit ! and to make it worse after I changed up over and over I went back to it and it got bit some more !
Why are these fish so complicated I ask ya …...and then so uncomplicated ?
Some days its chicken and some days it chicken feathers I suppose .
the funny thing is I wouldn't have picked this particular bait out of the arsenal but when I got there I needed a heavier presentation and put it on with a larger jighead .
sometimes I just don't get it , I think in 2 hours the 6 of us only managed about 20 keepers and about that many plus a few on toss backs .
Some only managed 1 or 2 fish and if it wasn't a fairly dark color it wasn't something the fish were interested in .
And yet another fyi , scent played no role in it either , I tried all the scents I had and none worked . Only this jig bare and ever so slightly rising from about 25 foot down in 35 foot of water …..
AND on a final note ,the minnow folks got ZERO bites ….what the heck right ?
back to the drawing board I guess

You got that many keepers, I'd say you figured out how they wanted fed about as well as anyone could. Also the fact that the minnows weren't working should be added confidence. Well done, and easier days will be coming.

    Suggestions:
Maybe a smaller profile plastic lure - thinner and longer on a 1/32 oz. Maybe fine hair or feather on to a 1/32 or 1/16 ballhead?
2 lb test fluorocarbon or 6 # straight braid using a clinch knot ?
    What was the water temp.?

Every hobby isn't perfect for everyone. I find it strange that a group tries 20 different colors before someone tries a bait fish looking silver. The fish don't complicate it. Fisherman do.

I have one lake I fish when the weather changes the bite for people that jig and use bait just totally goes away. Start trolling at that 1.-1.4 mph with crankbaits and I do pretty well. Some times going for a reaction bite versus nagging and begging them to bite works better.

In the larger scheme of things how many you catch on a given trip is not that important. Just being on the water, trying to catch while learning the lake, is what counts for me. Of course I could believe that just because I don't always catch many every time I fish.

Yesterday I only caught one white bass in 6 hours of fishing. But I had a ton of fun and added a nice stretch of the North side of Joe Pool and 21 new way points to my Solix so I had a lot of fun during those six hours. And I now know a new area to get out of the wind when it blows from the North.
