I like Skeetbum did my own test of 5-6 mono lines last year.To see what I preferred for my equipment & fishing style. All have positives & negatives . Some cheaper, some more abrasion resistant, some have better color(hi-Vis),& etc.... I had been using MrCrappie,& Trilene for some time. I also used Suffix,Vicious,& Stren all in 6lb for the comparison... My conclusion was Vicious was the best all round performing/cost for me...again this is only my opinion .... I've never used braid before....Maybe this yr I'll try some?

Ken, you won't be disappointed casting small diameter braid with or without a 4-6# test fluorocarbon leader. First time I used it on a baitcast reel for bass I was not to pleased considering how stiff the line was 15 years ago. But now the line is limp, memory and line-twist free, zero stretch, smooth, abrasion resistant and sensitive to light strikes using the lightest lures. Try out a small spool of the braid I recommended and put it on top of some crap line as backing. You won't go back.

I use the Kastking 6lb braid for my slip float rigs, it works just as good or better as powerpro, but cost way less.

I'm really on the fence between 2# SOS in high vis or 2# braid. I have braid on 4 out of 8 setups. I've gotten alot better at tying a leader on braid. Like tons better. So that doesnt bother me so much. I have some 4# fluorocarbon already I could use for leader. It sucks, but will work.

Fyi Spiderwire EZ Fluoro is crap line. Got it in 4lb and I can run it through my fingers and it frays. Its strong enough but wow, you look at it wrong and it starts getting the little fluffy stuff coming off it.

SOS 2# test line does not come in hi-vis. It is a marketed trout line and hi-vis and trout don’t mix.

    Regards

Yeah I figured that out earlier while I was at walmart. They had it in 2# and I was looking for the high vis and never put 2 and 2 together that trout are line shy. It's kind of tinted yellow.

But I picked up a spool of the 2# SOS. I'll spool it up but dont know when I'll be able to get back out on the water to try it. Probably next weekend.

My local Walmart has SOS #2 line on clearance for 75 cent a spool a few years ago. I around 20 spools of the stuff. It's a really good line for UL fishing.

You are on the right track, my friend! Use that stuff, catch some fish, and wonder why you didn't try it before. I've landed an 8 lb LM bass on the SOS 2 lb. Honestly, for dock shooting I use the 4 lb cheap stuff, so I can straighten a lite wire hook when it snags, but I change it often when it gets stiff and coils up - it is cheap. Soak in water the night before and it handles nice.

So upon comments and cost I've narrowed it down to stren crappie mono and trout sos in 2# test. I was thinking yesterday while fishing I sure wish I could see this line better, so hi vis is what I'm going to go for too. I was always so concerned about the fish seeing the line. But in that small of a diameter I'm not worried now.
