Just stop by the tobacco store and stock up on pipe cleaners

I got a box full of stuff and now I've got to go buy pipe cleaners! It's hard keeping ketched up.

The real deal about fishing is: (1) Fish where the fish are; (2) go with the basic light and dark colors and actions that are basic
Anyone who has read my many posts have seen photos of a huge assortment of lures stuck to fish lips. This was meant to emphasize the simplicity of lure choices where so many are equally adequate to provoke fish to strike. The reasons fish strike them may be complex guesses, but the plain fact supported by photographic proof, is that 1. fish are stupid impulsive animals and 2. easily provoked using basic shapes in motion - what anglers refer to as lures and presentations. The example of a jig hook with a pipe cleaner wrapped around it that caught fish is a perfect example.

There are many complex reasons given why fish strike manmade objects - none that matter or that are provable. Simple is as simple does and that's all any angler, regardless of age, needs to know.

Pretty neat report! True enough, you can "get by" with a very small selection of baits. However, isn't it part of the fun to see what will or will not work? I have way too many jigs. But it's what I enjoy.

    Most definitely!

Catching fish for the most experienced on Crappie.com is a no-brainer: present the right size lure and lure design and Bang! - fish on! The reason retailers sell so many different new lures in so many colors is the variety apart from the usual hohum lures anglers have relied on for years. It's secretly hoped by many that new products will prove exceptional - even though in most cases new is really not new nor improved.

Even lures I modify are meant to continually add to an ever increasing variety just to see which designs provoke the most aggressive strikes from the most fish species. Sure, I could cast only my spoon minnows and catch fish every outing, but where's the fun in that !

Seem's like complicated is the only way that works for anything anymore. I'm coming 74yrs and when I was a kid, we'd grab a fishing rod with some kind of unknown line on it in some unknown test, a can of worms and go catch fish. Today I need to know what kind of rod I have, what reel and must know line manufacturer and test. Worms just don't work anymore, today I need the latest in lure's presented right to fish found on my fish finder. Of course it goes without saying that old wooden row boat from the 40's and 50's will limit me hugely! Good fishing boat should start at about 20K!

I wonder if a crappie would bite on a piece of worm? Shoot they hit hooks wrapped with a pipe cleaner! And how about those catfish? They eat hotdog's and kool aide!

BTW, this is my spoon minnow design discovered after seeing the film of plastic left on a spoon I used to stir hot plastic. I occured to me to cut it into the shape of a minnow and dip one end a few times to thicken the body. Now all I use is a glossy floor tile to pour the film, pour again beyond the thin part, cut the shape with a box cutter blade and dip the thicker part for the body to hold the jig. No mold needed. Anyone can do it.

The thin tail quivers even under a float and has caught over 1000 fish and seven fish species since its discovery. But as I said, I could catch fish with it anywhere I fish - (I always keep a few on hand in the color shown) - but for me variety is the spice of fishing. As long as I feel the thump using other designs and lure types, I can idiotically believe at that moment in time how smart I was to having fooled a poor dumb fish that was never fooled to begin with.

Seems like complicated is the only way that works for anything anymore.
Actually simple is as simple does. All the toys we buy can't guarantee more fish caught. I have a 10' row boat, trolling motor and oars. Using that plus a $20 rod, $25 reel, cheap braid and jig heads and I can catch fish in the shallow lakes I visit anytime I fish them. Sonar is nice, but once I know depth and structure areas, I may as well leave it home. (Of course I do have a 2 GB mp3 player to listen to my favorite tunes while I'm in the process of find fishing. LOL)

Going on 71 doesn't limit me in the least - except maybe knowing what day of the week it is.....
