This thread reminds me of the "rebirth" of sorts that I personally had about twenty years ago when I decided to get back to the basics of fishing and quit listening to the multitude of manufacturers whose goal is to catch fisherman and make BIG $$$$$ from it. I have been spending much of December and January going through what I can only describe as a HUGE conglomeration of fishing gear that I've accumulated (and been storing) over many years of fishing... and laughing at myself the whole time as I went through bag after bag of baits and spinners and the like... when I realized just how little of the stuff I actually ever really used... or will likely ever use to catch fish.

After going though what I will describe as a "Fishing Tackle Culling Process" I was able to put together three good sized tackle boxes with some pretty good stuff that I gave away to neighborhood kids to help get them fired up about fishing. The real deal about fishing is: (1) Fish where the fish are; (2) go with the basic light and dark colors and actions that are basic to enticing fish to strike and (3) As Richard Gene so often says: "go fishing whenever I can, cause it's good fer me."

How many times can you reinvent the wheel? Lures are made to catch fishermen more than fish. But I still see something every year that I've just got to try. Once in awhile someone comes up with a bait that is different and works really well.

he is fairly dedicated and goes quite often , I have another buddy that once used Swedish fish and did well .
some find it entertaining some not so much , but in the scheme of things its really easy to go over board trying to ketch them is my point .

Always figured it was hard to reinvent the spinnerbait every year.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
