Default I’m ready for the next chapter.

I’ve been waiting patiently for this time of year. It has been almost 3 months since the last I caught any crappie. Finally they started moving in but still a tad too far to reach unless I take the boat out or use lures that can reach them. My first crappie of 2020 caught with 1/8oz Tiny trap and new reel to me. I hope to learn something new this year or at least how to find suspended ones instead of waiting for them.

Try that same area. Put you a slip float on with a 1/4 oz weight below it. Then about 12 inch mono leader and 1/16 oz jig. That way you can cast it about as far or farther than that trap. Let it settle and ease it along real slow. Should be able to pick up a few more. Nice fish by the way.

Very nice fish. When fishin gets tough for me, I downsize and slow down. Smaller line with less memory gets a longer cast. Smaller jigs catch big fish too but don’t cast as far, unless they’re under a float. Point is, go outside the box and find a way. They use kites for billfish now, but they didn’t used to.......

Thanks guys, yeah I have a bunch of new line coming in, Nanofil 4, 6,8 and 12lb and Fins windtamer 6lb. As of now I have 4lb Fins windtamer on my spinnings and 8-10lb PP super slick and 832 on my casting. I will play around to see what work best for me.
Don’t worry when there is no crappies, I just kill time with those bass, and you know what I got more excited with this first crappie of 2020 than that bass I caught a week back.
I also get some new lures to try out, some I don’t even know yet how to work it lol. I think the past year and this year, I’ve spent more on crappie gears than bass. I might have to change my screen name to Crappie of SoCal soon lol.

Funny, I caught my first fish, a bluegill, at that lake in 1960. Back then it was called Railroad Canyon Lake. We also used to hunt cottontail and dove there. I bet it's good fishing now and once you figure the crappie out you will do well. Have you tried around the docks?

Seeing that little Rattle Trap reminds me of something else kind of funny. Back then the go to bass lure On R.R. Canyon was a yellow Heddon Sonic, probably the first lipless crankbait. Same type of lure, different color. After it was closed to the public and the development started I never got to fished there again.

@oregon yes canyon lake is still a good place to fish, the only reason I moved here is to fish night and day. It is a private lake, which make it easier to catch anything I guess.

double jigs under a slip float and drug along smooth at a slow speed ….
fan cast to cover more water ….
adjust depth until you get bit ….
parallel to the shoreline off that long dock would be a nice start ….
don't know your lake but those blacks will likely come in to spawn soon …..
