It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

I’ve built a hand full of bfs rods and really got into it. Like some have said it’s not cheap to buy the real bfs reels from japan. Ive got 3 of the 2016 aldebaran bfs that are 300$ but with the right rod you can cast some stupid light jigs. I’ve been playing with some of the aliexpess bfs reels and for trying out bfs gear they get the job done. They won’t cast the 1/32 - 1/16oz jigs like the aldebaran bfs with no effort but most will cast a 1/16oz crappie jig and they are mostly around 60$ a real. The key to it is having a rod that will effectively load the jigs up to cast them. Look up “the reel test” on YouTube and he has gone over most of the reels you can probably buy. As to line I use 2 or 4 pound mono.

Have you ever seen any of the masters in Japan using BFS gear to cast 1/8? It is something to watch.

And I can cast a 1/8oz jig with a standard bait casting reel and a light action rod. There nothing hard about that with modern reels. You get down into the 1/16 and lower class you have to upgrade the brakes and bearings and get a shallow lighter spool.

Very impressive. Is that a fiberglass rod he’s using?

Sorry, I got enough piscatorial addictions, I don’t need this one. Have fun with it, I’ll watch.

He has definitely studied and mastered his art, and I admire him for that. That is what I call a parabolic rod and even with those we have like that here, there’s a learning curve. My first one or two were similar in action but in spinning setup. I’d like to see him fight a fish of some kind on that rig, very interesting. Thanks for posting the link.

Not sure. I have watched several of his videos and even though I have no interest in going down that road....as you say it is quite impressive. A lot of those guys get down to the 1/32-1/16 regularly.

Decided to start with a beginners level (low cost) Shakespeare model, and some mono...I watched a couple you tube videos on this particular reel as the owners manual didn't provide any info on adjustment or set up. So now it's time to practice. Any bets on number of birds nests I get? We will see.
