Looks like good eating
Yes , my days are off .The fish are spotty and these were mostly specky and pecky . The good news is after about an hour plus a lil, a bud and I put quite few in my crappie.com cooler for me to go have me some fish tacos .
So if you see this here ice chest in my truck its likely fish are gunna die . I said likely
I went to visit a bud up a ways off on a lake that has some pretty nice black crappie in fair abundance in it . Its a long lunch break when I go there but to be sure someone's got to do it .
Got there around 1 pm left around 2 30 pm , took me a bit to get rolling as did my bud . The fish were different than I suspected and not parked on the bottom as I thought would be the case . The fish were there in numbers for sure and we managed to ketch well over 100 and most were short but none the less it was fun and some wasn't so short .
Stopped with around 15 or 20 crappie and 6 or so big bluegill in my cooler .At first we were on big gills and I said just put them in the ice chest bro . this is a fish eating visit my friend .
Anyway after a bit I found out where they were and how they wanted it and then the show began .
a flip up under any of the numerous tunnel hull pontoons was just magic . a slow fall jig and a slack line before it went down more than about 6 foot in 15 foot of water and there you have it . a fish slinging hook setting big ole good time commenced .
said keepers got a ride to my house to end up being crappie tacos last night and to be sure it don't get much better .
The bait before yawl ask was a Thermocline lures lil fry in black emerald shiner and it was on a 1/32 ballhead number 6 sickle I got from Crazy Angler and painted it with orange nail polish .I was using a handtie I got from SK back when , that was still tied on from yesterdays excursion and it produced as well until some whale fish broke me off I might just add . It was 1/16 though and was falling a bit faster than I wanted but for sure getting more distance up under them toons .
Zebco omniflex 5 lb clear mono and a nice stiff 6 foot ultralite and a smooth reel made it a memorable adventure .
MAN were the tacos beyond description good yawl, fresh pico ,fresh crappie and fresh tortillas mmmmm
KABOOM is the word

Nice'uns...... And those tacos
Great story as usual and your making me hungry! Would you mind describing how you prepare the crappie for tacos? My wife has baked crappie before for tacos but it was missing something. It looks like you put some kind of dry mix on the filets before baking? Thanks.

They have a program here to promote local farm products called "Farm To Table". Looks like you got a "Lake to Table" program and I like it. That style of Crappie fishing is my favorite too. Watching that line fall and then the slightest twitch and "fish on".
