I had a $20 coupon from Academy and was going to buy a Engel but my 18qt Igloo with aerator works great. I simply add ice in the summer to keep my minnows lively. I typically fish by myself so a 1/2 minnows is what I carry with me. No need for me to buy the Engel when the Igloo works great. I paid $18 for the cooler and $13 for the aerator.

I've been using a 13qt Engel for several years and this year I added a 19qt Engel with no questions because I knew the quality I was getting. The 19 seems about perfect for a pound of minnows (around here a pound of minnows = about 12 dozen). Didn't even open the box on the new aerator as the old one still works great and now I have a back up. If I'm fishing by myself I use the 13qt and can set the cooler right up front next to me, if someone is with me I use the 19qt. I looked at the 30qt but it just seemed a little big and I was afraid it would be in the way.

I've also used an 85qt igloo with several air stones when we will be gone for several days and can keep it plugged up at the house with several pounds to use as a bait tank and it works great.

Engel won't tip over. The aerator that comes with it is kinda loud but it does work off of batteries or a/c with the provided plug. Seems like it is better built than any igloo cooler that I've ever owned, but the only igloo coolers I've ever owned were the old press shut lids. Engel does have a seal so it doesn't splash water. And the thing I like best about my Engel is the net on the inside. I think this thing keeps minnows from banging their noses against the hard side of any minnow cooler. Don't know if it really helps or not but that's my theory. Maybe not worth the extra cash but I do think they are nice.

The lift out net definitely keeps them alive longer for me.

45mph in 1 to 2 foot seas for 30 minutes running up stream during a spring walleye tournament. Engel went from the front to the back twice. On it's lid, on it's side, end over end. 3 dozen 4 inch walleye minnows lived to tell the tail with zero water loss. I think I'll keep my engel 30qt! And my 19qt. And my 12qt. No need to test something else that "might" not work.

I fished with a friend who had a 7.5qt with bubble box and net. I would like to change my mind. They are awesome.

I think most of it is personal preference for the individual.
Some folks will go out and buy a brand new truck or boat when a used truck or boat would be much cheaper and just as effective to get from point A to point B or to fish the lake.
Throw in brand reputation, buddies twisting your arm, or crappie.com members swearing it’s the best thing since sliced bread and some of us will crack under that pressure.

I like the sealing and locking lid. I like the high density foam that keeps it from being bulky. I like the lift out net even though I dont use it much unless Im fishing with live craws. I also like the single handle for carrying. It also fits easily in my garage fridge for a pre chilling before making a summer run. Did I mention I like the fully sealing and locking lid that doesn't come unlatched?

Sure I would like it to cost less, but after using it for 3 seasons, no way someone could hand me 50 bucks and I start using their retro fitted drink cooler.
