This is what I use... It's round, no corners, bait lives a long time.

This is my set up, cost effective and efficient. I get my minnows by the pound and in 4 years I haven't had any issues. I also have a larger version that I keep my extra minnows in at the house. I use a 120 ac bubbler that I can run off an inverter or generator when night fishing, then when I get home I just stick the whole thing in the fridge and plug the pump back in. There is no right or wrong, it's just a matter of how much money you can and want to spend just to keep minnows alive.

I’m with Blackjeepjk, it’s all a matter of preference, and what works for you. I bought a couple of the Frabill 8quart insulated buckets with small aerators several years back for just a few bucks. Here in South AL, I can only buy minnows by the dozen. I normally buy 6 dozen per bucket at the time. If i don’t use them all, I stick them in the fridge until next trip. I’ve never turned a bucket over and very seldom have bait die. Caught the fish in the pic on July 3rd with a temp around 95+ without losing any minnows.

I have to laugh, my hubby and his genius redneck ways! ? Hey, when it works, it works! Minnows can last for up to a month when kept cold! Many of great night catches on these!

You should be getting closer to 75 minnows (2" long) in a 1/4lb .... but, could be less if they are bigger minnows. If the baitshop uses a scale (which most that sell by the pound do) and they zero out the scale when the container of water is on it ... THEN drop minnows into the container until 1/4lb reading comes up ... you are getting what they advertise.
I like the idea of notching out the dip net to keep inside. I do use a dip net. I don't lift the box net up to get a minnow. Only time I lift it out is when I throw the remaining minnows in my pondSent from my SM-G960U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
