OK, so how do you know you should have broke them off? Maybe you simply did a good job playing them!

OK, tell me how you know you should have broke them off? Maybe you simply played them well. I recall in Germany in the late 60's we fished the base Rod and Gun Club lakes for some really big planted trout. Got to where I found some crystal sewing thread at the base exchange. On our fish scale it broke at 1# but sometime simply setting the hook broke it. It was a challenge getting in a lot of the fish but it was a hoot!

You are correct I played the fish well with drag and rod. I was merely stating for the water i was fishing (plenty of wood, lily pads, and grass) I was able to not break off a 20lb Drum, 10-12lb common carp, many 5-10lb Grinnell (bowfin) as well as tons of 4+Lb bass and catfish. You never know what you ae going to catch at one of m spots.

Does your braid tie reliable loop knots?

Only line I have in 4# is Seaknight Monster Blade from Amazon. Ordered 5# but I received 4#

Super Thin line, honestly a little too thin for my liking. I'll stick with 6# Hi Viz or 10# Braid
