I haven't seen this knot before. Looks easy. Will have to give it a try.

Unless line visibility is an issue go with 8# braid that has the diameter of 4# mono.

I have copolymer in 15# on a baitcaster and LOVE it!!! I would recommend it to anyone, even in lighter pound test.

It's a surgeon's loop. Been around forever. There are dozens of videos on Youtube on how to tie.

Well I’ll be. So instead of making one double line loop and rotating your jig through it three times you take the double line and wrap it three times around two fingers then push the jig through that loop. I will definitely try this. Thanks a bunch!

I'd like to throw in my 2 cents. What I recommend may not be your cup of tea, but it works well for us, over decades long, hard fishing seasons. We use Fireline Crystal with a fluorocarbon leader. Now the leader is the important part because it affords you some stretch, but extremely better abrasion resistance.

The no-stretch fused Fireline gives you direct and immediate contact with your bait as well. We use mostly Fireline as the mainlines in all our rigs, in either 2# or 4# test ratings. You will NOT be able to break it off - period. Not without the use of a pair of pliers to wrap around the line. Like I said, maybe not your cup of tea, but I can tell you that is works.

We don't normally fish brush piles, but we do get abrasions to our lines with weeds, debris and fish teeth. So, replacing leaders every two or three trips is common practice for us. But frequency of re-tying is reduced as well.

Now....just let me say one thing about loop knots. I don't care what kind of line you are partial to, but having a jig eye free floating inside a loop is begging for a disaster - IMO. My logic here is that if you are worried about brush abrasion to your line, just imagine what a free floating jig eye is doing to the inside of that loop knot, rocking back & forth is doing! Just another concern that doesn't have to be.

Instead of a loop knot we use Mustad Snap Hooks tied directly to the business end of your line. This way you still have the free floating effect for the jig, without any possibility of abrasion to the inside of a loop. And as a plus, this snap hooks make jig changing a breeze. Again, this is just my opinion. The most important consideration for you is what you have confidence in. That's the beauty of fishing. No one is right......and no one is wrong. Having fun is what is what it's all about.

What a concise and informative reply. Worth more than two cents (smile).

Yep...been trying out lately the crystal Fireline 2# test, it really cast small lures wonderfully. I could never get any distance with a Rebel Crickhopper, now I can cast it a mile.

My favorite line in mono for the past 40 years, hands down, is Stren products. They have never let me down. Clear blue, gold for a while, and Stren Crappie. I’m always satisfied with their performance. I use the Stren crappie in 2 lb on a lot of my ul rods.

When I was using 4lb almost exclusively, I tried a spool of BPS store brand Offshore Angler tight lines in 4lb. 4000 yards for about $8 or less. Ive used 3 spools of it over the last 14 years and have no stories of disappointment to relay. It’s tough, limber and casts well and no knot issues like some have presented. Ive tried many brands and this is my go to. I even use it on a couple of rods to longline troll.
