I beg to differ. What was asked was, “If the conversation is stopped, how can anything positive be gleaned?”

I think the positive. It shows that this will not be tolerated. And now there will be even more people on the look out. I have read a lot of post on this matter I have watched the video a few times. Talked with some anglers that were there and I have spoke with one of the major tournament owners. I will pray for the cheater and his family. I am happy that it is in the open and not only talked about in small circles. I have not seen one post anywere with anyone thanking Mr Darrell for taking the time and resources to keep an eye on this person. And to collect the info needed to confront this person. To make a HUGE stand and take care of this problem in a very professional manner. I would like to thank Crappie USA for there efforts. I am sure it was a tough thing to do. I could tell it was not easy for Mr. Darrell to do what he had to do. I have seen so many post about " This is why I don't fish tournaments " and " this is bad for the sport" Really ?? Like Darrell said out of 1000 crappie fisherman there was ONE bad apple. So 99.9% of the time great people in the crappie fishing world.
In the 5 years I have been manufacturing fishing gear I have met so many great people all over this country and a few from outside the great USA. I have made life long friends from Crappie.Com. I two have only met one bad apple myself. So I feel as a whole this is an awesome group of people that starts with one common thread fishing for crappie.

I know, but it's still an odd way to begin your CDC membership.

Read the "tournament cheater" threads as a lurker. Then, when the threads are closed, join CDC and start a thread asking why they were closed.

I understood closing the threads. I am sure they were not closed due to any outside pressure to close them. This is a very classy site - rare to find in the world we live in.

    Things I enjoy

    1. Prayer request for people that are hurting.
    2. Prayer request for people that are hurting.
    3. Prayer request for people that are hurting.
    4. Looking at images of great fishing trips.
    5. Reading how people catch crappie in different areas of our great land.
    6. Seeing people come together and enjoy the great gift that has been giving to all of us in the USA and discussing their events that have happened because of the ease of finding like minded people on crappie.com. "Crankfeast etc"

I do think the topics could of been left open a little longer though. Crappie tournaments like all things that are growing and are successful have growing pains and will have to adapt. This is a huge wake up call. If people feel they can not win tournaments because they feel like the people that win cheat less and less people will fish them. I feel like they handled this correctly but in the future new tactics have to be installed to limit the possibility of cheating this venue. I am sure they are aware of this and will update their system.

Anyway this thread will loose its luster over natural time and the topic will not be discussed as the crappie world moves on and people that have thought about cheating in the past have learned that it might not be a good idea to do so in the future.

IMO some positive comments have been received here, I'm feeling better and hopefully others are to, I'm changing the subject and would like to get your choice if you have one on your favorite cheap mono fishing line. Hi vis and weight etc. And yes I know I opened a can of worms!!

I use Mr. Crappie hi vis and have good success, I buy it at Wally World, it’s cheap for a decent size spool.

I appreciate everyone's comments. About 3 years ago, I was asked by a co-worker to replace his partner in a Crappie tournament. Unfortunately, I was unable to participate. Earlier this year, I asked him if he was still fishing tournaments and he said, "No, cheaters took the fun out of it for me." This bothered me for several reasons. I realize that as long as there's a competition, there are contestants who's need to win overpowers their personal integrity and they cheat. However, his comment mixed with this recent event was the catalyst for me to join this group. Before I get involved with tournaments, I want to know if this was a stumble, or is it a walk. I've had the opportunity to travel the world and consider myself a member of the worldwide Brotherhood (including sisters!) of Fisherman. As all of you know, there is an unwritten and expected level of trust among the brotherhood that, to me, is worth protecting. I was taught, and believe, that a man isn't measured by his mistakes but by what he does afterwards. In that spirit, to sweep this under the rug would prevent progress. I hope that the man at the center of this event becomes the voice of integrity for future tournaments.

Potential ideas- Have every team bring an amateur who gets placed at random with another team. This prevents requiring an official in each boat, but more importantly, provides a way to pass on knowledge to the next wave of fisherman.

GoPro, Cameras- This would be an inexpensive way to monitor that would not require an additional person per boat.

I respect that I've neither contributed to this forum, nor to the sport of Crappie tournaments. However, if people are leaving, or choosing not to participate in Crappie tournaments, because of the inevitable acts of a few, it is a trend worth addressing and changing.

Thank you for this forum and for our Brotherhood.

    Done.
