I would guess when they go deep you could still reach they with crank bait's if you added some weight to the line in front of the crank. Then you could get it down to them. I noticed when the water cooled off most the fish I was finding were down about 20'.
I carry snap weights from cabelas and use them to get deeper with Crankbaits. Easy to change and add more weight if needed.

And also, you can use Precision Trolling App for a pretty good idea of depth the cranks are running.
