    Default your opinion

I don't have too much trouble with other boaters. most everyone respects others on the water. sure you have a few jet skies and skiers that pester fishermen. I just stay away from those lakes in summer. seems the more money on a water the ruder the people act.

anyhow, yesterday im headed up river to fish. a toon and some yakers are coming down towards me. common nothing odd about that. I always slow down for yakers and fishermen. I know how it it to get waves when your thick in timber trying not to bump cover. most everyone accept some bass boats slow down when passing on our river(its small). again most people are courteous. well this guy in the toon must have thought I was just gona blast past the yaker or something? he turn rite into my path and heads rite for me! I stay course. when I get closer to the yaks I slow as normal, but stay course. he almost hits me because I stay course. im not the aggressor here, and he had no call to try and run me to the side. he forced his way between me and the yaks and them towards the bank. I still stay course. he never made any signals or nothing just a stare which I gladly gave back with my own hand gesture. he must been either mr attitude or drunk. I think a bit of the latter.

I went on to my spot and fished. couldn't stop thinking of this situation though. as normal I cant let it go. I don't take well to being disrespected. I didn't want to confront anyone because there were kids in their boat. plus these days it ends up being a big deal. I just wanted a pic of his numbers for the meaning of this post. I found them at the ramp, shored my boat and walked over to his boat/truck and took a pic with my phone. I never said a word and went back out fishing. im sure he got the message I was sending though. lol

so, should I let it go or should I report this to the DNR? I know nothing will come of it so whats the use rite? on other hand maybe this fool has caused problems with others and maybe he was drunk. he was walking aroud at ramp like he was drunk. I live and let live if you don't enter my path in life ya know. probably should have called the DNR then and there I guess but with what proof. guess I need to buy a camera to mount on my boat?

    your reaction would have been?

If I pass someone fishing and it is safe to do so I am at full throttle full trim. I am causing the least amount of wake I can. The people that come up real close and drop off of plane will about wash you out of the water

I have mixed feelings on it , sometimes folks don't need alcohol to act ignorant . Common courtesy is a lack of something our society is in deep need of . The one thing that bothers me is children saw some of it and gathered the information .
I would likely let it go ,but then again I wasn't there to see exactly how dangerous the maneuver was . If I thought it might cause someone harm down the road or possibly could have that outing yes I probably would .
Its a difficult call on just a read but to be sure it sounds like it made for an unpleasant situation and that in itself makes me sad .

yea I agree with passing on plane. I prefer them to do so too. but most people will give you dirty looks because they don't understand. so, I just slow down so not to swamp them. this was a smaller river about 100 yards wide.

but you didn't answer my question. lol

I always slow way down to minimum wake around yakers. I live by a state park here where they rent yaks so I know many may be new to yaking, so I certainly don't want them to tip over and get eaten by the gators around here. Just kidding about getting eaten, but there are lots of gators here in any case.

River Scum, I guess I'd say "report it". Just be real nice and say that you're only doing this in case there were other reports about the same guy. Nothing will likely result from it, but you never know. At least you did your part to prevent a possible tragic situation.

Whenever I see something happening on the water where I think things might escalate, I break out my smart phone and start filming. Sometime just that will de-escalate things. People don'k like being a jerk on camera.

when he got out of my path, I missed him by about 2 ft! that's how close he came. it wasn't at "danger" speeds or anything though. like I said I slowed down before getting to the yackers and he wasn't going that fast either. but he most definitely deliberately tried to head me off my course. I wont budge my boat is not for looking at its for fishing. scratches and dent don't bother me in the least.

If he came that close, I would report him.. that's close enough to board, plus if there were kids in the boat, I'm sure he was teaching them something bad....He might have thought he was doing something good, but he may be inexperienced too...
I agree with Dockshootingjack though, in the river here, it's best to pass on plane, speaking from experience, the ones' that slow down from plane, especially too close before doing so, throw 3x the wake and bump you straight in to shore.. The creek i fish a lot is not that wide and I would much rather someone come by me on plane, than to throttle back when they get close...

Being a kayaker I like it when you slow down and show courtesy. There a lot of folks that don't even consider us worthy to be on the water though and don't care if we get dunked because of them. I would report him like Slab said.
