    Default Crank bait painting

I know we have a lure making section but not a section for this. Do any members paint their own crank baits...I'm going to start in the next week or so. Maybe if there is enough interest Slab will add A crank bait painting section to the lure building thread...

    Scott V does it (business)
M R DUX does it (personal)

Not sure if there's enough people doing it to warrant a sub-forum, but nothing stopping anyone from starting a thread about it in the Lure Making Forum.

If you're on Facebook there are a few groups. Try "brotherhood of custom crankbait painting." Helpful folks.

Yes smoothlures, I am following the Brotherhood of custom crankbait painting on Facebook as well as a few others on You Tube as well, but nothing like sharing with family as many of us consider Crappy.Com members...I know a couple new members was asking about including lures on a jig swap which wouldn't be fair to the one giving a hand painted lure and getting a jig back in trade (monetarily)... So I know there are a few...Just another option for catching crappie... If I ever get a shop built I will be busy between hand ties, soft plastics and doing crank baits in the winter when the roads are not well enough to get to water...I learned to drive a deuce and a half with a 1/2 full water buffalo on sheets of ice. I know how to drive on it, just too many folks that try to drive when it's slick like it's dry for me to get out there if I don't have too...

I have painted many and kept my favorites. Repainting used baits is another facet of this. Not hard to do if you have a little equipment and some talent. ScottV was instrumental in my education, and I advise you to follow his directions verbatim. The cranks I painted are too large and haven’t worked well for me here in FL but knocked em silly in TN. Most that I caught there were whites with an occasional black. I need to get some smaller blanks and set back up again. Holler and I’ll answer what I can. Harbor Freight has a lot of what you need on the cheap, including an air brush and air dryer. Some air brushes can get into a couple of hundred dollars, but it isn’t necessary. Looking forward to seeing what this brings.

I am interested as well. I love pulling cranks. I find some on sale often, but never really the colors I like. It would be nice if I could buy them on sale and paint them the colors I use.

One reason some of us are reluctant is we've been approached by those who say they just want to paint a couple for themselves then a week later they are selling them in the classifieds. I've helped a lot get started and since I rarely sell mine, those selling them aren't hurting my business, just my feelings when they are dishonest.

Any small compressor capable of feeding 30 psi continuously will work but the little airbrush ones will drive you nuts running constantly. Get an air/water separation filter to go on the compressor discharge. I use acrylic Createx paints from Hobby Lobby, clean up with Windex, and use a Badger Renegade Velocity airbrush. Have at it!

MR will the little round compress.ors like the little dewalts that come with the three nail guns work? If so all I would need is an airbrush and paint. Thanks for the info.
