I was thinking the same thing. It was an odd sight.

Saw the same thing up the river in 15-20’ water Saturday! Russia I guess Kinda wondered what it was!!!! Saw it in several places we were getting bunches of water from up river also ! And we are still getting lots of current I went out to the river out this evening for about and hour came back into one of the creeks was going to make a few cast and before I could get up and get the trolling motor deployed all the way the back end had already past up the front so I stowed the trolling and came on home

It probably was just gases coming up from the bottom. It was an enormous area though. I'm guessing 1/2 mile or more long and 100-150 yards wide. Lake Guntersville does set up a thermocline. The creek I was in has very little if any inflow right now. It's terribly dry and even in normal years there isn't much inflow in the fall.

Mitch it's odd that you're talking about current. I didn't go out on the main river much Saturday but at Short creek there was no current under the bridge. We fished there for 30 minutes or so and our minnows went straight down. Usually they'll drift one way or the other depending on whether they are generating power or not.

Russia or the Ukraine. Them communists are going to get us. They were spying on fishermen at their hotspots in another thread

My thoughts is the stuff on the bottom of the lake rottening and causing a gas from it to excape to the top of the water. During hurricane Katrina the county buried the trees and all under dirt in a dirt pit close to where I hunt. I seen steam type gas coming from the ground a lot of mornings while passing through going hunting. Thats my 2 cents worth and that's not worth much.
Be safe and good luck fishing

i switched to a 1/8th and still couldn’t get it down vertical ! This was in the main river about 9 am-11 when I decided to quit fighting the current and the wind ! Tm was on 5 and still couldn’t keep up!
    Too blessed to be stressed!

Mitch they may have been pulling water while you were there and not when I was there. We went that afternoon. There was so little current in the creek that the breeze was pushing us UP the creek. It wasn't real windy either.

this is a strange question ,but was the area in a funky foul odor ? sometimes when they turn here you can smell it pretty strongly , like sewage is my best description .
