What I didn't realize over the years of crap vision was not seeing things in stereo but morelike what you see when looking at a TV image. If one eye is looking in the wrong direction rather than straight out like the other, double vision is one thing; seeing distant objects lying on top of one another the other distortion. You don't realize what you've lost until you regain it.

6 more years and cataract surgery.

    Hey my friend,

It is tough getting old. If your body were a car, this is the time you would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. You've got bumps and dents and scratches in your finish and your paint job is getting a little dull. and that's not the worst of it. Your headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close. Your traction is not as graceful as it once was. You slip and slide and skid and bump into things even when it is not winter. Your whitewalls are stained with numerous veins. It takes you hours to reach your maximum speed. Your fuel rate burns inefficiently. Almost every time you sneeze, cough or sputter, either your radiator leaks or your exhaust backfires! Kidnappers are not very interested in us.
In a hostage situation, we are likely to be released first.
No one expects us to run anywhere.
People call at 9 PM and ask, 'Did I wake you?'
There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
Things we buy now won't wear out.
We can live without sex but not our glasses.
Our eyes won't get much worse.
Our investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
We no longer have hot flashes, we have power surges!

Still, we hope you will be back on the water soon with a complete healing for your eyes.

    Mike

Now you have me worried, I am only 53 and between the pain and PTSD flashbacks I usually only sleep about 2 hours in a row. It takes me 10 hours to get 5 hours of sleep.

Glad to hear the surgery went well; I'm sure you feel like a kid on Christmas morning... finally getting your wish to see clearly and no longer having the eye fatigue that I'm sure came along with previously always having to consciously steer and guide your eyes in order to get through whatever you may be doing. I too had eye surgery,,, but for cataracts in both eyes... that corrected my vision to such a place that I no longer needed prescriptions glasses... not even for reading. As I have always heard many times: There is no doubt... getting old is not for the faint of heart.
