I know many of you will not agree with my comments, but I feel compelled to add them anyway. We do not own the waters or the fish that
live within the waters. In addition, think back to the numerous times you have asked fishing questions here on crappie dot com, in the bait stores, or on the fishing. If you are like me, you appreciated the time(s) when individuals took the time to enlighten you. I choose to look at the positive in this situation that an older person was out enjoying herself fishing and wanted to talk with someone. If she learned a tip or two so be it! Life is to short to make mountains out of molehills.

shipahoy is totally correct in his approach from my perspective .
if I meet you on the water I will do whatever I can to help you ketch fish if you want me to .
I wont likely give up the entire enchilada on the internet though as those gleaning information like that have not made an effort to go ketch fish at that point .

Oh I agree. I was fishing one day my home lake and noticed this boat that had this couple and 2 daughters in it. They were fishing and I watched for a while and noticed they weren’t catching anything and the daughters were starting to get bored. I pulled my anchor and paddled over to them and struck up conversation. Told them exactly where to go and how to catch them, depth, everything. Told them it was great to see a family fishing together. I then paddled away and left them at it. Hopefully they did as I told because the fish were biting good that day and those girls would surely have enjoyed catching them.

There is probably nothing to it but I would make sure to keep my doors locked.
Tell'em I'll be there.
I am one of those blabbermouths that give away all I know about current fishing conditions when asked or if I see a person having problems catching anything. I love being on the water so fishing is more important to me than catching and catching large numbers is more important than catching trophy size fish. So it does not bother me to help someone else as I have been helped in the past.
Nor does it bother me when somebody else is fishing the spot I told them about last week. I just move on to the next spot. Or look for new spots, as finding new spots is as much fun for me as fishing known spots.
I even invite people to fish my slips when I am not fishing them. The fish they catch will be replaced by those who move in when the spot becomes vacant.
Now if I am fishing a spot on the lake or the slips that is a different story. I don't like being crowded when I fish.

Crappie limits here in Ks went from 50 to 20 at many lakes big and small. 2 slabs make a big meal for 1 person. 20 slabs is a lot of meat.

Texas is 25, 10" to keep. Some states have no size limit, some states have an 8" limit. Joe Pool Lake, my home lake, would do better to have an 8" limit to remove a lot of the smaller crappie from the lake. I personally would not keep anything that small as I fillet what I catch but it would help to have smaller ones kept.

Don't get me wrong, if I see a parent with a child or an angler fishing from shore that doesn't have a clue, I may even give them jigs and lures that will help them catch fish as well as show them the best presentation(s) for those lures. I have the advantage of a boat and sonar that they don't have and feel lucky and fortunate to have discovered so much in the last few decades not only dispelling fishing myths but finding potential locations in many waters I fish - both essential to catching more fish. As Buck Perry said long ago, catchable fish are in only 10 % of any lake.
When it comes to small lakes and boater anglers, it's a no brainer to avoid letting them see me catch fish in prime locations - guess you could call it selfish especially if I want to return the next day. The more fishing pressure, the less fish are apt to bite and the whole point of catching fish in my case is to try different lures I make and design just to see how well they catch fish. It's the main reason I avoid certain waters on weekends. The more fish that bite those designs on that and other days, the greater the chance of me sharing them with all of you.
On the other hand, if I feel I can trust someone that honestly shares equally lures and presentations, it's like we are on the same page, knowing where to look and what to use without having to say so. Location sharing may happen but usually not necessary because we both know those water like the back of our hand. In all the years I fished locally, I've found only a few in that category and will always be vague when someone else asks "how are they biting or what have you used to catch them". No point in screwing up a good thing.
