So I bought an under water green light....

Yup need help here. I bought an underwater green light on a whim lol. Some of my friends came to do a night fishing for catfish a few times. Most of the time I would fish for bass while my friends enjoying bait and wait. I think it might be a good idea to bring those crappies in closer so i bought the light. I have small 5 amp battery pack that I use for fish finder on kayak and float tube. The light (1000lumens) should last 4-5 hours. I tested it out once about 2.5 hours but not very success of catching any crappie. I did see a few tiny fish and 4-5” fish but no bite on my plastic under bobbers. I tested it on my usual spot where I catch a lot of crappie but move out from shore to a little deeper spot about 15’ FOW.
I think I didn’t set it up right. So need help from experts here.
How deep the light should be?
How deep to set bait (plastic) under bobbers?
how long it take for fish to move close to light?
Where to set bobbers in circle of light, outside edge etc?
Any tips and tricks?

many many variables here but here basics.

I like to set up just off the deep weed edge where I mark suspended fish. set light down 2ft. some nights you draw minnows rite away other nights never do draw many. don't have an answer for that but its fact. don't give up too soon. some nights its a bite at dawn. a lot of times though they don't turn on hard till 10-12. some lakes have a great bite an hour before dawn and up to 8-10am. minnows and jig n plastics(bobby garland baby shad or puddle jumpers) work good. also jigging raps(ice fishing lure) work great. green glow jig heads are a favorite of mine. put light cord on a float so its not jerking around with the yak. some nights you can fish in the light some nights its better out at the edge. don't give up on the light its not bs!!!!!!! its also not magic. it wont work every night and it wont work where there aren't any fish. do your part to get on the fish and the light will more than double your catch 75% of the month.

we always have the light close to the surface for the best results .
i typically start putting jigs down about 10 foot deep in the perimeter area
slowly raising the bait also gets noticed
and sometimes it takes a while for the fish to show up

I mostly fish at night and only in the past year have I added a green light. I always use a floating white light. But have recently started using the submersible green along with it. Can’t really tell if it makes any difference or not. Most of my fish are caught at least at the edge of the light and out to 20 to 30 ft from it. I would usually catch my fish in 20 ft. Of water and fishing 8 to 12 ft deep. Then one night I noticed most of my fish being caught on 1 rod,got to looking and my bobber stop had got moved and it was only 4 ft deep. So I adjusted the others to match, and the water temp was 87degrees , surprised me there. The last trip a few weeks ago fishing the same spot I caught fish at 4 ft deep down to 12 ft deep. And everywhere in between. So, I don’t know what you can glean from this but this has been some of my experiences

We have a couple different set ups for the lights. One set up we have is kinda fixed in place. It goes out about 50' or so from or dock and sits just of the bottom, kinda of a weighted float if you will. It sits about 8-10 fow and has a fairly large dia of a lighted area. Some folks that come by and fish on it saw it's like a plane or truck under the water. These lights really put off some light and all LED. I think the light cleans itself when it's on too. We've had it in the water to years now, stays on all night.
We also use the smaller ones on the boat and hang those 2-3fow out the back and front of the boat. They work good for bait fish and then the bigger ones come around sometimes. We have better luck on our fixed lights though. We also fish allot of minnows when on the lights.

I have found that crappie could be caught outside the light. I have one i built and one I bought the fish reacted the same to both.

When I tested mine, I just set it right by the dock about 3’ deep so half light was under dock. I definitely saw bigger fish chasing tiny ones but not a lot. I’m not sure if noise from when I moved around scaring the fish away. I left one bait about 4’ under bobbers and another one casting and jigging around. I might try to add float to the light and set it out 4-5’ away from dock next time.
