    Default Disappointed

Well our local Gander Mountain store is closing and has everything marked down. Went yesterday and picked up some stuff and noticed the St. Croix Rods. Hmmm, normally I never look at that stuff because it’s just to much for me but I knew if I didn’t buy one then I never would so I pulled the trigger and bought the Premier rod. I also bought a Pfleuger President XT and thought wow this should be my best outfit yet. Came home put reel on rod then line on reel. Tied on a jig and ready to take today. Soon as I got on the water and cast one time my heart sank. Tick, tick, tick, each crank of the reel. Something isn’t right and I don’t know what. I don’t remember this putting line on. So the reel is bad or something. Several cast the little plastic nut holding the reel on rod starts coming loose. I tighten it up again but it just keeps working loose. At this point I’m completely ready to throw what should be my very nicest outfit in the lake. Heart broken to say the least. So what should I do? Anyone ever sent a reel to Pflueger for repair before? Both the rod and reel were the last of their kind. The deal I got makes it hard to just return and both should be under warranty.
Has anyone had the problem with the nut loosening on rod before?

Send an email to Pflueger. They should have customer service. Slide down a steep log road hunting and parked my backside on a large rock. That action cracked one of the locks off of my leatherman super tool. I sent an email inquiring about repair. They asked my name and address and said they would find out what I should do about repair. Four days past withiut a word. Went to the mail box and inside was a package. A brand new Leatherman. I said that to say that in this day and age of tight market shares and social media that spreads bad news faster than a wildfire. Customer satisfaction is important to most companies

A lot of reels have a switch to turn the tick tick tick off.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Have several pflueger reels and one came up missing the round dust cover on the side. Contacted pflueger on the net and they only have some factory authorized service centers. And you buy spare parts for them from ereplacement.com. More than likely your most painless and least frustrating option will be to tear it down yourself and order any parts needed. Probably something simple. I know it shouldn’t be that way but that is the way it has been in my experience. Hopes this helps a little. That said, I do indeed like my pflueger reels.

I'm confused. Is the problem with the rod or the reel?

Both have issues. The rod has an issue with the nut loosening that holds the reel on and the reel has a tick tick tick every turn of the handle.
