    Default The Texas Heat

The midday heat here and sun right now are relentless . At 100 plus many days it gets rather toasty and makes it "almost" impossible to stand still out in it .
I frequently take advantage of the scenario myself to hit spots that are known crappie production locations . The average angler cant take the heat and or chooses not to try to endure it and goes early and or late and stands in the crowd of local bank anglers that like the spot .
This of course isn't how I prefer to ketch crappie , I like a spot to myself if I can find it . I enjoy time alone with the fish and trying to figure out what the fish want to see to get one on my jig.
So I hit a spot I know wont have anglers in most cases in the midday sun , and to be sure early and late in the day that same spot is flat full of folks every day . So there I stood sweating it out like I was going to the electric chair , literally dripping sweat on my sunglasses and burning like toast left to long in the toaster .
The up side to this scenario is I brought me a straw hat and an ice chest with lots of water and some ice blocks in it . I don't you see mind crappie slime on my water bottles and rod and hands and everything else if I am in crappie slinging mode .
The next upside to this episode is of course the box full of fatties I left with to take to my house to meet my fillet knife .
And on a final note I did in fact kill some and grill some the same day ….
and that is the final upside to said Texas Heat ….
there was one downside though , "Pepper" thought she might get a taste of said yummy grilled crappie and I said no mam I don't think so , you just sat around in the dog kennel in the ac while I endured this Texas Heat
in case you didn't know it btw ….

Good job, I wish I could stand the heat, but I can't. When you start going to your deer stand, I will be fishing, I hope!

I was in my deer stand that morning hog hunting /scouting a bit and left to go hit the crappie when it warmed up a bit …..

If I fished the Texas heat standing in the sun I would that burnt toast you referenced. And I am not talking about a sun tan. I know I don't need to tell you this but be careful of sun stroke when fishing in the open under the Texas sun.
