i have only owned 5 in my life , and all of them bought within the last 9 months so i am definatley no expert , but for a lower price reel my shimano sahara is great , it is very very smooth , the shimano stradic is higher priced but it is an excellent reel , i think the shallower spool reels give the best cast using very light lures , my friend has some very expensive shallow spool reels and they cast really well but just the plain ole stradic and sahara do pretty well too.....

I have 4 Presidents and like em all. Also have one of the 5’ lightning rods with one on it. I have other rods in its class and prefer a 1 piece rod, but that lightning rod just handles great. Other reels can make the cut but I put a lot of stock in the balance of a rig. I try to put the rod and reel together in my hand before I say yes. I’ve taken a few back apart in the store and bought nothing that day, just didn’t work like I thought it would.

Pflueger presidents, if you're not in a hurry wait till black Friday Cabelas and bass pro usually run them for $39.99. Bought mine a couple years ago and there are really great reels

Shimano Siemna, Mitchell Avocet and many of the Bass Pro branded reels work great for me in freshwater.
