    Default Molding jig heads

Does anyone make their own jig heads? If so is the price of the molds and time spent doing it cost effective. Any thoughts or input would be welcome.

Depends on how many you use. If just pouring for yourself I find the self satisfaction of pouring and painting my own then catching fish on my creation is well worth the cost. But if just using a few dozen a year it probably more cost effective to just buy from someone who sells a good quality jig.

Though I neglected to mention it before, type or style better served for crappie fishing. Looking at Do It Molds there is a confusing amount of molds available. Though I have my Own opinion, I have learned to temper it with advice and insight from others.

I haven't bought commercial made jigs in 40 years. A mold will last you a life time. I have molds that range from1/80 to 2 oz. When I pour I line them up and just pour. I don't care if I loose them. Hooks are around $.04 apiece and lead cost what your willing to pay for it. I bought some from a tire shop that had old grease barrel full of wheel weights. Had to go through and get the lead ones. Ended up 80# for $15. Most jigs end up costing about a dime a piece. With the cost of the paint.

No question in my mind that pouring your own is worth the cost and effort. I get the hook and size I want, when I want, painted like I want. Not something close I found at the store that was close to what I wanted. I also meet some nice folks when I give em a couple of what I make while leaning on the side of the boat at a ramp. You’ll find that you can do that when the cost is negligible. Many more benefits than one would think.
