    Default Military Flag Retirement

Guys I know this is a fishing forum, but I wanted to share this special event with you all. Many of you know that I run a non profit org called Lone Star Warriors Outdoors and we are just about to introduce fishing into the program, crappie fishing at that! (What other kind of fishing is there?) Anyway we did a hunt a couple of weekends ago and one of the things that we always do is a Flag Retirement Ceremony. For my warriors and myself, this is very emotional. I made a video with permission and posted it on my channel. I wanted to let you all take a look if interested. It has nothing to do with fishing, but rather American Pride. These are the guys that have fought and sacrificed so that we all can go fishing. One of the guys is a professional bass fisherman. He lost an eye in Iraq but still manages! Hope you enjoy! Feel free to leave comments and if this does not fit here, please feel free to delete.

As a Boy Scout Master we did several flag retirements at our camporee. I can't even begin to say how emotional it is when it's out in the woods. With a couple of hundred boys and a lot of ex military dads. As we live around several large bases, so a lot of military dads and moms are there.

I served but not in a war time. I never want to live anywhere where something concerning the flag doesn’t fit.
My hats off to you with many thanks for your work.
My personal opinion; If you don’t respect the American Flag and all that it stands for, then you probably need to find somewhere else to live.
    Again Thank You

First and most important thank you (and all crappie.com veterans) for your service.

Flag retirement ceremonies can definitely be emotional. This was a very touching ceremony you guys did, very well done. Like Tahoe I'm involved in scouting (cub scout den leader) and last year we learned about our flag. This year we're going to learn more including a flag retirement. I'd love something formal with a veterans group so the boys can see what it really stands for. But something respectful with just the scouts would also be nice.

    Thanks for sharing!

I grew up in a Military family, and followed suit into the service. While I served during Iraqi Freedom, my unit was transitioning from the 113 APC's (Armored Personnel Carriers) to the Bradley Fighting Vehicles, So I didn't go from Germany to the fight. Watched every broad cast on AFRTS TV though. Didn't care for the way they were broadcasting our troops every move either, like Sodom don't have Satellite TV. I am very proud of the job our fellow soldiers did, and am saddened by the loss of all of them, Some were friends, all were brothers and sisters...

This may not be revelent, but I belong to a Masonic lodge and a few years ago our lodge received a flag and flag pole from Woodsmen of the world. The gentleman that came out and presented it to the lodge also gave a speech or lecture if you will where he recounted the in depth history of our flag and how it should be flown and when. I never realized how much about our flag that I didn’t know. If ever any of you have an opportunity to attend such a presentation I would encourage you to do so.

I was never military. I grew up in a scouting family of 4 kids. We learned about flag respect early on and try to explain to others. I watched your video and it’s a powerful thing. What I took away from it was the dedication of all those present, and the thought that our military forces are full of many others just as dedicated. God Bless you one and all. I don’t have the words to thanks you enough for what you do for me and mine, and all of us.
