My bud has a spot on a dock with green light under the dock .
Every night at sunset it comes on .
And everytime I visit it most of the larger predator fish if not all of them pass by it in view swimming upside down a few feet under the surface or less ?
white bass , bluegill ,yellow bass and etc .
only the baitfish are right side up on the surface ??
what gives here , a light orientation thing ??

I've noticed when fishing lights like that the predator fish will dart in and grab one then roll on their back and turn to get out of the light as quick as possible. I am guessing they do that to not spook the rest of the bait ball.

hmmmmm maybe so , I do notice they leave the light area and cruise up under the boats and then back to the light over and over , I don't have a good reason I can quite grasp on this situation just yet for sure. a lot of the time they are not really trying to ketch bait though and just kind of stalking and cruising back and forth upside down ?
I guess I need to get some video of this scenario and maybe watch it for a length of time repeatedly and get a better idea of what it is they are trying to accomplish with these maneuvers .

you know I just thought of something , you may be right on the not spooking the bait thing .
god gives almost all animals a light belly and darker back and this is a natural way to camo up in a lighted situation .
and maybe the dark back spooks the bait and the light belly don't ….interesting for sure

I’ve never seen that. Very interesting,

I've seen many times when seeing crappie under lights they will turn on their side and sucking in the bait fish. They just don't stop with one they will take all they can get into their mouth.

Maybe they are thinking that the bright light under them is the sun and that they are upside down. Therefor they roll over as to be upright facing what appears to them to be the sun
