I've used the improved clinch knot since my grandfather taught it to me in the late 60's and it has performed fine for me for most applications except (for instance) drop shot rigs when I use the Palomar knot for the double knots on two or more hoods while the tag line end is still the improved clinch for tying the lead line sinker

DBD Thanks, that’s the one I use.
K. I too was sold on that knot, but I have two others that have never come undone like the clinch or improved clinch has for me. I lose what’s on the end and come back with a little pigs tail on the end. Never happened since. What I figured after the fact was that I was trimming short or not pulling hard enough when it was complete. Lots of folks use that knot and I won’t say bad things for that, just tell of my experience.
