If cut in half, do you use both half's or just the tail section?
Whole minnow or any part of the minnow, tail, head, I use them like a nibble. Looks and tastes good!!

I'm not as experienced in crappie fishing as many in here, but I've never heard of using cut bait for crappie thought that was mainly for catfishing. I'll have to do some research on this. Or can you add more info on it. Is it for night only or day. I have caught crappie on dead minnows but only when the current or blowing wind move the bobber to make it look like the minnows is moving.

If I am fishing a minnow...it will the the minnow, the whole minnow, and nothing but the whole minnow

Seriously...if the minnow is not "screaming" when I put it in the water...it's off and on with a new one.
