Default Ever wonder how far a light lure casts using your rig?

As for myself, my preference is making long casts using light jigs from 1/32 - 3/22 oz. + plastic weight. If I can't make a cast of at least 30', there's something wrong, that something being the line, reel spool or the rod. For the heck of it I decided to put two setups to the test: spinning and spincast reels attached to light action rods. The spincast reel has 8# test/2# diameter braid tied to a 1/32 oz jig and the spinning reel has 8# test fluorocarbon line tied to a 1/16 oz jig.

As you can see after measuring each rig's casts, the lighter jig cast over 42' and the heavier jig over 57'. There was no wind to contend with that may have limited distance or maybe increased it, but for sure the reel, rod action and line diameter, line age and test allowed casting light lures a nice distance allowing for a maximum amount of water to be covered when necessary. IE - a boil or surface splash over 35' away, which happened at least 8 times yesterday, allowed me to put the lure just past it and catch turned on fish slapping minnows on the surface at 3:30 pm.

Note I don't use mono though Trilene XL is okay for certain spincast reels. Braid is preferred.
Note: IMO braid allows maximum strike sensitivity and hooksets at the greatest distance which is why it does well using a certain spincast reel and always for spinning reels.
