    Default A Powder Blue Sky

And the legendary summer sun ,winds and heat are a mix that many anglers don't understand when it comes to trying to find and ketch crappie.
First rule that isnt a rule ...Some say its only a minnow bite at certain times of the day .
Second rule that isn't a rule ….Some say the moon effects the time of day they bite .
Third rule that isn't a rule …. The fish wont feed in the middle of the day .
Fourth rule that isn't a rule …. The wind is to high to ketch fish with light jigs .
Many seasoned anglers abide by rules that crappie fish don't subscribe to , I hear it from professional fisherman all the way to beginners on the subject of crappie .
Remember this and remember it well , crappie are feeding machines and have a very difficult time not eating even when they are resting and not highly active. They may not take a bait with gusto and may even toy with it like a little kid who don't want to eat the last three green peas on his or her plate .
So here is the deal , they are biting and biting frequently even when they are NOT biting in many cases during the summer months . The summer bites are so terribly light that many many anglers including the seasoned ones never even know they got bit . The bites are so beyond subtle and tricky and in many cases don't even exist on the anglers end of the deal . This is turn has crappie people saying they are not biting .
The bite is there and the fish are tricky but go light and go stealthy and set the hook on every lil peck, nudge ,slack and or it feels odd for a second . Some will still thump it but in my experience most of the 89 I did ketch in 2.5 hours only whispered on my jigs . I missed at least that many more takes do to the tricky little every kind of odd bite you can imagine thing going on in the wind the other day as well .
stay tuned and have a great day and YES the powder blue jig I used that day hurt them the best or worst depending on your description of said event .
p.s. they all got a hall pass and went back in the lake

Excellent! It's amazing to me how many "bites" I miss at times! That's one of the reasons why I use light braid (2# test Crystal), with a fluoro leader. Using good quality rods (B n' M) with this light braid gives me the highest chance to "feel" 'em breathing on your bait! Don't know how anyone can fish finicky fish with mono? But more power to you if it works for you.

Good read...Earlier in the week I was fishing with my 11yr old son and told him many times during the day that if anything feels different at all or your line does anything funny,SET THE HOOK!At first he wasn't catching many but after he got on board with all the light bites,he did pretty well.

glad you all enjoyed it , I myself get great personal satisfaction putting hooks in crappie that are not biting .
the summer months have some of the best light bites of the year if not the best .
and to be sure many a crappie fish school me ,but none the less it sure is fun trying to one up them tricky summer crappie .
