You mean "in the boat" & on the water ??
I have all of mine broken down, each in a rod sleeve, & in the rod locker, until I'm ready to use them. But, I'm only normally using 4 at a time. If I'm starting the day using them, I put them together at the ramp loading area before launching.
When they are being used & I want to run to another location on the lake, I lay them down each side of the bow floor & strapped down with rod straps (if going for a long distance run or the water is choppy) .... otherwise I just lay them all down on the rod box side of the boat for short distance runs. As long as they aren't bounced around much, they don't tend to get tangled into each other.
I don't "think" it would take as long to undo a few line tangles as it would to put each rod in a holder/tote and secure them, then undo them all again when I got where I was going. But, again ... I'm generally talking about only 4 rods. If I were using 6-8 or more, then one of our sponsor's/member's travel holders might be beneficial.
