Default Where to place artificial structure

For those that drop x-mas trees and pallet structure, how do you go about picking the spot to drop. Do you drop on the creek channel, on the flats, and what depth do you target. Also, when is the best time of year to drop structure. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I do 2 things.
First I look for a flat area in 15 to 18 foot of water near the bend of a creek channel where there is no other cover.
Second and about as often, I drop brush around a tree that has produced fish just to make it better

I try not to place mine in areas that are travelled by ski boats. I get rocked but at least I dont get run over.

I put some on a point heading toward deeper water. Starting about 8 or 10’ start dropping as you go down the point about 4 or 5’ down to around 20”. My thought was that they would move up and down in depth without having to leave. Sweetening an existing pile makes good sense too.

I am with Buff and sometimes place "extra" in areas that produce fish .
but I also drop on the edges of channels and...
sometimes in sheltered areas just to run from whatever might make my experience unpleasant
as far as what depth ,that is where it gets tricky as every lake seems to be different on average depth and where the fish like to hang .
also some of it depends on time of year you want to hit said cover .
shallow stuff in the spring , midrange summer ,deeper stuff in the winter
my 2 cents and to be sure a night run is suggested for the actual placement time
and don't sit on it every time you go to the lake
otherwise the world will be on your spot quickly ,just saying
