Some of you guys got it. It was Lou Eppinger and the lure was the Daredevle ( thats how they spell it ) .
In 1918 Lou's nephew Ed Eppinger came to work for him. Now for the story.... In WW1the Germans called our 4th Marine Brigade "Teufelhunden" or "Devil Dogs". The 4th Marine Brigade penetrated the lines and captured the Germans during the Battle of Bellau woods in 1918. These Marines were called Dare Devils by the allies. Lou and Ed changed the name of their lure from Osprey to Dardevle. Since 1987 Ed's daughter Karen has been running Eppinger Mfg. she was joined by her daughter in 1994. Family owned for over 100 years and American made and still in business today.
