Default Pedistal seat base leaking water

Other than keeping the pedistal seat post screwed into the base at all times, how do you keep water from wetting the inside of your storage compartments?

Not sure I understand how the pedestal has anything to do with water getting into the storage compartments ?? My pedestal bases are not placed on any storage compartment lid (other than the rear deck base, but it's over the sump area which is not used for storage of anything that I'd be concerned about getting wet .... like minner bucket & paddle). All my other compartment lids are "lipped" to funnel water away from the inside of the compartment.

Here is what I would do. I would take that pedestal and find me a bolt the same length as the one in your post and the same thread. I’d make me a rubber washer to slide up to head of bolt. Then when you remove post screw bolt in finger tight. That will seal it from getting any water in it. If you plug the end of base then your going to have water standing in it and two things are going to happen. You won’t be able to screw in against water plus the threads on nut are going to rust or corrode.

The only place to mount my pedistal base is forward of the front casting deck storage compartment lid. That means unless I plug my pedistal base with either the seat post or some kind of plug I'll have water leakage into my storage compartment. I was just curious if someone found a nice plug that could be used or I guess I'll always need the post screwed into it.

Thanks Cray. I've got to run to Lowe's so I'll check for stainless bolts that size.

Wonder if you could find a livewell or transom plug that would fit?

Check out Lowe’s Special Section on nuts, screws, bolts. Stainless etc in the special drawers section. You might find a black rubber plug shaped like a cork for the size your looking for to plug the hole and remove when you need to. They have them in all sizes as well as corks.

Lowes has corks and they are cheap. That is what I have used in the pass, works well.

Thanks Cevans and Riverdog. I looked for a stainless bolt to drop in there but Lowes didn't have one that size. Thanks for the plug idea. I got my Millennium seat installed on my 19.5 foot bay boat yesterday and am looking forward to being able to finally sit while I fish. My knees and hip joint will be happy as well.
