Now I’m crazy about CB slider grub, so Slider grub with either 1-1.5grams (depends on wind) jig head on caster. Spinning mostly I use 1/16oz with stinger shad.

Each to his own. I used bait casters in my 20's when I hunted bass, I switched to spinning gear when I switched to crappie as my fish of choice. I now prefer spinning gear but as I said, each to his own when it comes to fishing styles and fishing gear.

You need to be careful through. Once you start seriously fishing for crappie you will forget about the green fish.

My line twisted mostly from retrieving back bobbers too fast, I mostly target fish if out of target I’d rather bring the lure back fast for next cast. With mono sometime I can feel the resistance and able to fix it on spot, with braid when I knew it is alway too late, I have to end the trip and fix at home. Lucky old shimano come with aluminum spare spool.

Yeah... I didn't like the way you have to hold a Baitcaster with your palms up, spinning seems more natural and comfortable to me.

I prefer bait caster's for most fishing like, maybe 99%.I even use them on trout the few time's I fish for trout. But got into crappie and was told they won't work so put my spinning rods to work. Now I think back and my first two crappie were caught by accident while fishing for bass! Both caught on auger tail 1/4oz jigs. I have some small plugs I got just to try on crappie and I find I can cast then with my bait casting rods! Actually gonna try them one of these days! I did try using them with sliding bobber set up's with very small jigs and it don't work very well with the bobbers I like. I use solid cork one's about 3/4" dia. Very light! Thats alright though. Getting used to spinning again. Had a small light Zebco to try on crappie and reel didn't work well at all for me. Very nice reel though. Gave it to my son and got a new low profile Diawi that works great for me!

I think the only real advantage to one over the other is first the ability to cast really light jigs that we use for crappie and then how we like the way the rod feel's in out hands. My level wind reel's and rod are always my first choice.

Saw people talking about line twist with spinning reels. As I recall two thing's cause that. First is pumping in a fish while its pulling. Lift the rod tip to bring fist closer then as you drop the tip, reel. When the tip is down, stop reeling and lift again. The other is reeling while a fist is taking line against the drag. Where the line pass's over the bail while these thing's are going on create's heat and stress. Don't know it it happens with braid line or not, never used it on a spinning reel. Now look at a casting reel. Line comes back in and simply lays on the spool. Not much for the line to drag against. I can't imagine using mono with a bunch of line twist on a level wind reel! Best way to fix line twist is change out the spool foe a new one and remove the twisted line and throw it away. There was another thing might work also but it's a pain. Get the boat going down the lake and let out all the line in the spool with some weight on the end. Drag it that way just a bit then stop the boat and reel in the line. As I recall that used to fix the problem. Might be worth a try! Of course as inexpensive as line is anymore, I'd dump it and put on new line!

I use bait casters on all my trolling rods. They are a lot easier to set depth and control the fish when netting.
