How many of you do this. Florida crappie like small baits. Road runner already has lots of flash. So when the curly tail grub gets worn I rip off the head and simply hang the tail on back and I have an extra small bait. Secondary benefit is that the tip of the tail rarely if ever gets stuck on barb when casting. Yay....your crappie.com tip of the day. Anyone else got any small tips to share today on Father’s Day. Some of us need all the help we can get!!!!

Good tip Slab, I use the tail of a plastic worm after I used it , and the hook part of the worm is worn out for those Florida Bass.
Happy Father’s to all the Father’s out there .

    Happy Father's Day, Boss !!

I have been known to take a marabou Road Runner out of the package & immediately trim the marabou feathers off about halfway between the hook bend and the longest length of the feathers, cutting it vertically, making the tail feathers "blunt". This not only makes the bait "smaller", but it helps stop Bream from yanking at the tail feathers, keeps the marabou strands from becoming entangled in the swivel, and still presents a tasty looking "snack" to the Crappie.

nasty weather here or id be out too. nice one slab. florida crappie liking small baits is news to me. when I started fishing down there I was surprised at the crappie minnows they used. they were using bass shiners up here to us! it was mostly rivers and swamps we fished there though. I have learned over the years that river fish eat bigger baits than our lake fish do.

I use the tail like that when drop shoting deep stumps and weed beds when fish are in a funk.

I have been known to nip the front half off a plastic's body to entice a bite myself .
sometimes it just is what it is don't you know
and to be sure a lil tiny strip of bream skin dangling off said roadrunner would likely be the bomb as well

Glad to see you were able to get some fishing in today. Thanks for the tip, I've never really thought about just using tail from tore up grubs. Happy Father's Day to you and all the others out there.
