Try being a guide for a week. You’ll run thru pretty much every scenario mentioned here and learn to deal with it. I have to adjust my gear and locations to fit my clients often. Of course,at the end of the day, that great catch is a result of their fishing abilities. A bad day is always on me.

Of course,at the end of the day, that great catch is a result of their fishing abilities. A bad day is always on me.
Ya know, it kinda feels that way when we do poorly. I feel responsible, though I know I shouldn't, because my versatility and knowledge is better suited to finding and then catching fish on lakes I'm familiar. Going back some years I can remember going out a few times with excellent bass anglers that knew the lakes like the back of their hand and had the gear suited to fishing deep - reservoir style. Only one invited me back after our first outing because I had no idea where he was catching fish and I wasn't plus me not carrying deep water lures in the tackle box. I could feel he judged me as a newbie not worth bringing along any time in the future even though I had caught hundreds of fish in different shallow lakes and ponds over the years on many lure types.

But in the above case, I was willing to adapt if given the chance once I knew more about the water fished. Totally different than someone incapable of learning on his own, constantly needing a guide because of being too set in his ways. I may go with him in his boat if I have nothing better to do and just wanting to get a tan. If he is in my boat, I'll try to forget he's there and consider my invitation an act of mercy, no longer feeling guilty when I catch fish and he can't.

I still like fishing with my dad, even if he doesnt listen Haha. He is slowly coming around. I think I got him willing to try soft plastics next.

But most of the time I like fishing alone, but sometimes it would be nice to have company and to have some friendly competition.

Interesting though, when my partner got in synch with a lure he finally started catching fish with, he has at times caught more fish than me in an area!! Go figure !
More important are more potential fish locations we now have of a chance of discovering whether with his presentation or mine.
When he catches fish, it's like I did and I'm happy for both of us (even though I have to unhook the fish because he wears contacts for distance and can't see the hook).
Unfortunately he doesn't learn much from experience.

I have 3 different fishing partners/friends that I fish with. I also fish with my kids. I also fish with my wife. Then there's times I prefer to fish alone. Every trip is different depending on who I am fishing with or who's boat we are in. I enjoy learning new methods and thoughts. In the end the fish are a bonus and not the main reason I fish.

I reckon if your in his boat you gotta play by his rules. If it bothers ya, dont go with him. If I tell someone I am leaving at 4:30am they better be there and loaded and waiting on me to unlock truck or they gonna get left behind. When I am done fishing we going home. They get half the boat to fish however they want. Make my boat payment and we can do whatever they want.

Point is there are no rules. When he was on the cell arguing with his girlfriend with his foot on the trolling motor, the boat wandered all over the place - sometimes in a circle. That not a rule, that's oblivion and inconsiderate. When were on my boat and not catching fish by 10am, he wants to go back to the dock, get in his truck and go home. I can tolerate only so much before fishing becomes a chore.
