    Default Line question

I got a smallmouth trip coming up next month. I respooled all my baitcasters with 8 lbs seaguar Fluor. Been playing with it pond hopping in the afternoons after work this junk breaks inside the spool. I had a 1/4 ounce buzzbait break off today mid cast. Threw it and after about 40ft of line spooled off the bait just kept going. I spooled 6 combos with it and the same thing is happening to all of em even with less than 1/2 ounce lures. Anybody had any similar problems?

Seagaur red label is about all we use on our bait casting rods for bass fishing and inshore and personally never had a problem. For flourocarbon it’s cheap and I have caught countless 30 and over 40 pound reds on 15lb red label. Which seagaur did you get?

Sounds like you got a bad spool of line. I use Seaguar Abrazix for all my leaders and rigs and even long lining with it on some reels, it's very tough and durable in my opinion.

Never had any problems with Seaguar red label on BC reels. Sounds like that spool of line is bad.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

I made some double rigs leaders with seaguar red 10# and they were breaking at the knot too easy, had to stop using it.I found out later that Fluorocarbon has terrible knot strength...its true.

About 15 years ago I stopped using any kind of monofilament line and started re-spooling with Power Pro in one weight or another. I use it on bait casting and open face spinning reels. The only reels I haven't put it on are my big surfcasting reels. I lose less tackle and less fish. Most snags can be pulled loose and it lasts a long time.

The type of knot your tieing is also more important with flouro. The palomar knot can burn the line when you pull it tight.

I would say mostly because you are using 8lb line flinging bass lures with a baitcaster... I throw buzzbaits on 15lb minimum. Thicker the line, the better they will stay up top too, and never fluoro on topwater.. mono only. Also, your thin 8lb line is going to dig into itself in the spool and kink, which is why your line is breaking mid cast.

seaguar makes great fluoro, its actually my favorite.

Your issue will be solved if you go to 10-12lb. 12lb would be my suggestion for all around smallie fishing.
