I took a one year old Fortrex of my boat last year. I replaced it with an Ultrex and haven't regretted it at all.
I kept the Fortrex as a spare since they use the same mount and can be switched easily.

I have had the Ulterra for a couple months, used it about 15 times. I do not regret the purchase at all. Especially as I get older (65 soon) I love the remote deploy, stow. Spot lock is great too!

Icast is a month away. As others have stated, rumors of new trolling motors, and other rumors of new companies releasing trolling motors.
If you can wait, it might be worthwhile. There is always the crowd that gets the latest and greatest, then you can buy their "old" ultrex, ulterra, etc.

After putting a ipolt on my bay boat there was no going back. The real question is do you want to fight to stay on a spot or let it do the work. And skunked is right, there will be loads of used units going up for sale.

Ultrex has a better steering mechanism than Terrova. I have Ultrex and yes it's worth the money.

If you single pole fish 100% of the time the Ultrex is the only way to go. The terrova would be great if you trolled mostly, but the foot pedal leaves a little to be desired. With the Ultrex you have everything you need along with the cable drive foot pedal with electric assist. I've had one for 3 years and couldn't imagine fishing with any other. Hopefully by the time I'm to old to stow and deploy the TM easily Minn Kota will have the Ultrex with auto deploy and stow feature like the Ulterra has. Heck, hope it comes out in the next couple of years!

Thanks for all of the replies. To be honest, I really don’t understand all of the terminology, which probably means that I should do more research. On my former boat, I added co pilot to an existing minn Kota pd. I really liked the remote feature, and put the foot pedal away. What I think I want is a TM with a reliable remote that I can operate from anywhere in the boat, and the spot lock feature that will hold me in place in wind and wake. I’m not broke, but prefer to not spend money on something that I will not use or need fairly regularly. When I talked with Brian, we basically discussed Xi5 and Terrova, based on my criteria. My preference was to drop down to 24 volt, but he encouraged me to stay with 36 volt for my 19’ Lund Pro V. Is Ulterra or Ultrex that much better for my fishing style, almost exclusively single pole?

I've got an 18 foot Tracker Tundra, the 24V Ulterra works fine for me. as mentioned previously, I love the deploy-stow with the push of a button. well worth the extra money in my book.
