    Default Book list.

Starting a book list of fishing techniques from people that are/ were pioneers of their trade.

Here is my list in no particular order.

Jed Davis' Spinner Fishing for Steelhead, Salmon, and Trout. (Inline Spinners)
    Buck Perry's Spoonpluging
John Skinner's Fishing The Bucktaits from Surf and Boat.
    George Daniel's Dynamic Nymphing
    Charlie Brewer's Slider Fishin'

Obviously none of these on my list are crappie specific but each have thought me great things about fishing in general. From these books and time on the water practicing their methods I can go anywhere and rarely get skunked. I have learned to fish both current and still water form these giants of the fishing world. Some of these were writing books and teaching before I was born. Some are younger than I am. I have learned equally from both. Some use bait casters, some spinning, some fly gear. I like it all.

    Other recommendations?

The Sunfishes by Jack Ellis. Great book about fly fishing for bream written by someone who loves both. I bet I've read this book a dozen times.

Piscatorial Absurdities by Joe Robinson. Fly fisherman writes about ultra light spinning and does an excellent job.

Serious Flyfishing by John Waite. One man's opinions on how to fly fish. They're very good opinions.

Backcountry Fly Fishing in Saltwater by Doug Swisher. Title says it all, written by a master.

American Coarse Angling by Brook Landis. Fly fisherman discovers European coarse methods work great for American fish.

Fishing for Buffalo by Rob Buffler and Tom Dickson. Fishing for carp, suckers, buffalo and other "trash" fish is fun.

Good looking list. My goal is to do a lot more fly fishing. I’m still very green, and it’s a challenge for me to detect a strike.

Take a Very serious look at the George Daniel's book above. George was the captain of one of our USA international fly fishing teams. He has traveled the world competing. The techniques he describes in the book are a cross between fly fishing and vertical jigging called Czech nymphing or Euro nymphing. It is a great bridge into fly fishing from crappie fishing. And don't be afraid to use a strike indicator.

    Death.

Been a long time since i hung around here. Good to hear from you.

I have to say I'm impressed. Most ppl have never heard of these. I will be ordering the ones you recommended. If memory serves, I think you and I have walked similar paths in our fishing lives. Are you still tinkering with the European float fishing techniques?

I love to read and love to learn about fishing. All the books on your list are good. I've just haven't gotten around to the others yet. George Daniels has given a couple of presentations at the Atlanta Fly Fishing Festival. I wasn't able to attend, but I know him by reputation. Those competitive fly guys are good.

Been doing it for over 25 years now. It's much easier to learn today, though. Any method you want to learn is on Youtube.

FWIW: although Buck is famous for Spoonplugging, Larry Dahlberg once said that Buck's favorite thing in the world was fly fishing for white bass. Go figure.

I got to meet George a couple of years ago at a fly conference in Louisiana of all places. He is incredible. Joe Humphreys, George's mentor, is another hero of mine. Those high sticking techniques Joe taught George are deadly on crappie in current.
