Default New to me line - Gliss

Figuring that I would throw away more money than the price of this line, I gave it a shot. It had a tail hanging out of the package and for 8lb, it felt very small and flexible for its stated size. My question is; who can tell me what about it. It’s new to me and I’ve heard a bit about polyethylene and dyneema, but I’m basically uneducated in most of it. Thanks in advance, Skeet

Wow! Dyneema fishing line? I didn’t know they made fishing line out of Dyneema. The only thing I know about Dyneema is that it is a material that is used for ultra light weight tarps, tents, and back packs. Very strong for its weight. I guess that is why they are using it for fishing line as well. Interested to learn more about it myself.

SpiderWire and Berkley Fireline is made from Dyneema.

I did not know that. I’ve never used braid. I only knew about Dyneema or Cuben Fiber from backpacking.

Yes, and the breaking strength is like twice as strong as what it says on the package.I use Berkley Fireline 4/1 which means it's 4# pound test, with the diameter 1# test, but it actually breaks at 8# pounds.

Gliss is polyethylene, I think the consensus is that it cast good, but it's not all that durable.

I have some Gliss and it's strength is the distant you get with casting it. It cast even better than Nanofil which is a heck of a feat. The downside is it is not abrasive resistant. After a day of fishing I have to cut off 10 yards of line because they stuff shreds length wise along the fibers. It performs alot like Nanofil in that it is so slick that you really have to watch what knot you tie with it to get a secure connection. It's not a perfect line but I will say I can throw a 1/64 jig a good distance with the 6lb test. I have it on my Bluegill rods when throwing mico jigs. I would not use it in heavy cover or around rocks. It's strength is casting distance.

I used 18lb test Gliss, it was good until it frayed out even with my rough fingers. Strength is good, casting great, very well behaved in wind and sensitivity is perfect, but I won’t buying it again, it would last only a season at best. I only spool mine 50yds so I have a lot of backing. I recommend leader for longevity of the line 2-4’ and after half season just revert the line inside out.

I got given a spool of it and I hope it don't hurt feelings but to be sure it made one trip to the water and IT released a bunch of fish and jigs and then it went into the trash as soon as I could get it off my reel when I got back to my truck .
I wont go into to detail on an open forum but to be sure pm me and I will make you laugh about it ,if you want to hear more .

Ketchn, no hurt feelings here. It was a shot in the dark and I had my hopes up but we all know about something too good to be true. Gonna give it a spin next time out. I have a 6’ light action blank to build and the Quantum Optix reel I have for it will have a little different line than I normally use for now. Hence the trial by fire. I need to find some fireline crystal that someone doesn’t have to retire off of and I’ll give it a shot too. The Nanofil has low abrasion resistance that I’m trying to improve on without losing the super casting I get with it.
