There is no "SET RULE"!! That is why the handle interchanges on most spinning reels!!!! Your preference!!! Although, I have seen spinning reels on the top side of the rod to suit the preference of the user!!!Sure looks like something is NOT RIGHT. Just saying. Used to be multi-tasker, now have to pull over to honk horn!~

I grew up with spinning reel handles on the left side and bait casters on the right. Spinning reels were not switchable. That's the natural way for me.

Exactly , would hate to have to change rod after casting every time .

Right handed, handle on left. I grew up using Mitchell 300's, which had the crank on the left side. Somebody knew where it belonged.

I am right-Handed and grew up in Backlash city with A rod my uncle brought back from japan shortly after the war. A Baitcaster with Braid that might not have threw the bait 50 feet and the rod was 4 1/2 feet steel -- thumb on the spool to try and control over run. Then one day A relative came and fished Grandpaws pond with a spinning reel that could cast 20 feet farther with no effort and never had a single Backlash. For a right Handed person the design where the Bail opens, and closes, to retrieve the line is off center to the right of center . That places the line directly under the finger of the casting hand for a right handed person --- in reversing the handle still makes no difference in the Bail Operation that is now off center for a left handed Person -- My handle is on the left side and I will never go back to Backlash city even if the reel was free
