I agree that it needs to be very simple to enter data otherwise I wouldn’t use it. I think the biggest reason I haven’t built anything like this yet is because I have tried several different apps and I never stick with them. I either forget to add the data cause I don’t want to pull my phone out while fishing or it is too complicated to add an entry.

Back in the 90's there was a program called Hook Set. It was data based and I had a lot of trips stored in it. Problem was the year 2000. It quit working as the data for year was only 2 characters. So yeah some of that y2k stuff was real.
Nowdays it would not be difficult to gather data. In fact all data could be automatically available through the phone. Only thing needing entered would be fish caught. Or not caught!
I think you have a great idea of polling everyone. You find out more of what people don't want.
With computers, phones, and fish finders, I use this rule: if my 73 year old dad either can, or will use it, then you have something. Then again, he has a go-pro and I don't. That said, someone had to set it up for him.

Yep wicklundrh, I'm with you on the technology thing. I found a gopro hero at a Walmart on sale some years ago,(the hero was fazing out I guess), anyway I was wanting one so I got it. Still haven't figured it out and it sits in my desk drawer...

have started log books several times over years and then forgot to keep going on them. I take pics of all my fish as it is my reminder of what happened. Plus your posts on here are a type of log book as I look back on what I did a month ago and it reminds me of what the heck I did and how I did it.
An app that geo-tagged and included weather conditions in the exif data is a start. It may also be possible to embed a copy of the lake conditions website from say the Corp of Engineers in a photo automatically based on GPS coordinates. Assuming of course that a data connection is possible. Along the same lines if the smart phone is paired to a fish find that data could be included.
