Default pflueger president vs shimano sedona

Which is the better reel? Let the debate begin!

As a side note, i usually go with shimano, as i own a lot of them and have never had a problem. I was planning on buying a sedona to go with my new panfish rod but the pflueger president got such good reviews, i thought id give it a shot.

I have zero experience with the Sedona but the President is the smoothest-tightest spinning reel I have ever owned with a good drag. I can’t imagine one being much better.

That's a pretty good review, too.

I have a few 6920’s and a 6730 (just a little older, used in salt water mostly) and they all perform very well. The Sedona as I recall, has a 2 bearing system and felt good in my hand, for about half the money or so. I didn’t buy the pres to troll but to cast tiny jigs and have in my hand all day, and I’m pleased. There are other for more money that are super smooth, and maybe ill treat myself to one someday, but not today.

I use to be a big Shimano fan. Had 8 of them a decade ago. No longer. After the big problem with their friction ring design, which seized up their reels big time; and then to fix the problem, they upped their prices with the new re-design! Switched to Pflueger and have both their President and Trion models. I really feel this is the best bang for the buck out there today. JMO.

I haven't run the Shimano reels but I have numerous Pfleuger Presidents and love them. I am looking at buying two more right off. My buddy always used Shimano reels and now is switching to Pfleugers also. Not because the Shimano is bad, he just likes the Pfleuger better.

I have some of both and have no problem with either. I would say that, in my opinion, the President edges out the Sedona in quality, but then again it is also more expensive. I have no regrets in buying my Sedonas.

Have both and they are interchangeable for my conditions.
