Any bait you wish to use but I have not fished a minnow in 20+ years, and I like it that way. Do not have to worry about where baits shops are when ever and where ever I decide to go fishing.

I have not bought a minnow in over 10 years. Catch a plenty. Trying to wean off live shrimp in saltwater.

i love fishing for crappie from early Fall through the cold winters here in Ohio then into the spring. I have not used a minnow for bait Im thinking in over 30-40- years, for crappie. I dont have anything against them as far as bait i just got used to the plastics and hair jigs since i make my own and in winter i dont have to get my hands wet getting bait. I guess I just evolved into this and still catch plenty of fish. If the bite is on you can catch more with artificial just from the fact you dont have to re bait the hook.

From my experience, minnows generally work better. However, some days its all about tube jigs of the right color, possibly with crappie crack. Really it depends on the day. I bring my minnow and jig poles when i fish for crappie so im prepared for both scenerios

I fish plastic year round shooting docks. Spring and Fall are the best, but I catch ‘em year round. I wouldn’t count out a good minnow though. What ever works.

I ran this experiment last weekend. My buddy had minnows on his 4 rods I had jigs on my 4 rods and minnows won out that day as matter of fact every fish caught that day was on minnows.
I love fishing with plastics and have a whole bag of them but I cannot come close to catching the same amount of fish with them as I do with minnows (I am sure I’m not using the jigs correctly either).
