Default 1 jig at a time or 2?

Still trying to figure out this crappie fishing as I used to only bass fish. Went on a guided trip 2 years ago and we used 2 jigs on each pole the whole time. I went on another trip last year with a different guide on the same lake and we used minnows the whole time which didn’t teach me much about jig fishing.

So when and why would you use 1 jig compared to 2. I would think in thick brush you would only use 1, but how about when just dropping jigs down beside visible stumps? Does 2 jigs scare fish away you think? I see plenty of people on fishing videos only using 1, so I’m very curious.

Just trying to to find when and where to use each setup here in Oklahoma.
    Thanks!

Yeah...and you can put a jig on the bottom and a minnow on top.A double set up is just a way of trying to swing the odds in your favor.

Sometimes double jigs can have that schooling baitfish look, like double flukes with bass. I don't usually vertical jig with doubles, just long line or casting. I almost always use the same plastic or jig on each one to achieve that school look, it will absolutely outfish singles in the right situation.. Not just because you have twice the odds, but because of that school look IMO.

There's a trick with double jigs though, if you know you are in a school of fish and feel that fish hit. Set the hook then just let him sit there shaking his head for a couple seconds, quite often another will see him and come in and hit the other jig and you will have a double. The more times you can do this quickly in a school, the more fired up and in a feeding frenzy they will get.

I generally only use 1 jig ... whether casting, trolling, or Pushing. I have done it (Pushing) with two jigs ... but 95% of the time the fish would hit the bottom jig, so double jig rigs didn't last all that long (I went to single jigs).

I prefer to use a single jig as I fish a lot of brush. I’ve tried double but lose too many that get hung up in that brush.

I prefer using 1 jig now, less chance of snagging and hanging up. Doubling up is fun but happens only once in a blue moon.

I like double jigs so I can narrow down the preferred color quicker.
