Default President 25 or Trion 25

I am going to try dock shooting and I would like to know what you guys think about the two reels. Will they be good for the job or do I need a bigger spool. I want to eliminate as much twist and memory as possible. I would probably use the set up for casting jigs and bobbers also. Don't have a rod picked out yet but leaning toward a Sam Heaton Super Sensitive. Thanks for the help.

Curious as to why it would matter ?Spool choice might make a difference but once the bail opens and you let go of the bait it's all rod/line jig/weight at that point . Reels are very close to each other . I say toss up as I own 3 Presidents and just gave away two Trion reels . The fact I gave them away had nothing to do with quality .

The bigger the reel's spool the better .... "bigger" as in wider or longer. That seems to be the general consensus.

I've used reels from UL size up to 2000 series size, and found them all to be "adequate" for the 5' to 6'6" fast action rods they were on. I have used 7'-8' slow-moderate action rods, but found that they tend to "sling" the jig more so than "shoot" the jig, and didn't "skip" the jig as well. The parabolic bend of slow-med action rods doesn't seem to load up as much as a fast/very fast action tip rod, so it doesn't put as much speed on the jig. That's been my experience, anyway.

If you want a Pflueger reel with a large spool look at the Arbor.

That is why I was curious as to why it would matter . Those two reels are almost identical .

If you do not consider the small price difference between the two, there will be very little difference in performance. I have 4 Presidents and 2 Trions. No complaints on either model. As has been said, once you release the line, it's all about the line (type & pound test), lure weight and rod tip. If I had my druthers, I'd probably opt for the President series.

I use and prefer Pflueger President, as for line twist the larger the spool the fewer twist you will get.

I own both in the 25 size. The size is great IMO. I'll give you my biased opinion on which model to chose after catching fish with both.

    President, President, President, President.

I've only had a Trion for maybe 4-5 months. I've had some of my Presidents for years and years. The Trion isn't gonna last long enough to have it years and years. I caught a 17 lb Flathead catfish with my 25 size Trion and while it did work fine to catch it, it now has a "ticking" sound when I reel it. I've caught lots of bass, drum, catfish, etc with all my Presidents and not one of them shows any signs of letting up. Still just as smooth as they were to start with.
