Default First timer setting up Driftmaster rod holders

Used my Christmas BPS gift card to get Driftmaster 250H rod holder. Not much info in the box. What is the best way to decide where to mount it. 18 foot fiberglass boat with no carpet. Pretty good access to underneath the front deck. Trolling motor on the starboard side. Depth finder(helix 5 DI) on the port on the recessed deck. I emailed Driftmaster, but no reply yet. I've got the flush mount.

    Thanks,

    Escout

Personal taste as to what suits you best. Be sure it doesn't interfere with anything like DF or TM. Friend of mine didn't double check and he has to remove one rod holder to stow his TM. Almost put mine such that the rod handle obscures my front DF screen. Be sure to check with rods in holders too

Place it where ends of your rods are 6 inches in front of your knee.....that way you do not have to lean way forward to grab a rod.

Second this. I mounted mine just a little too far forward, and while they work fine, I wish I would have brought them back just a little bit more so I didn’t have to lean as far forward to grab a rod. I would advise having someone come and hold the rod holder rack for you and put a rod in it so you can see where the most comfortable position for you is while sitting in the boat seat.

Cut a small piece of board, attach holder, sit in seat then move around until it’s most comfortable for you. I like mine just a couple of inches higher than my knees and like G said about 6 inches in front of knees. No bending and not hitting rod butts with knees when turning in seat.

    Thanks to you all!!

I was still undecided about where to drill holes in my deck, so I got a 2 X 4 about 2 1/2 feet long, and drilled a hole in one end for the seat pedestel and mounted the base plate on the other. It had a bit of side to side slop in it, but I was able to fish with it and even caught a few fish! I may improve on the idea and just use it like that. (to mount it where I would like it, I would need arms about 3 1/2 feet long or a well trained monkey to go through an inspection plate to hold the nuts so I could scew it down. (I know, I could use molly bolts).

    Thanks for the help!!

I used driftmaster's crow foot mounting system so I didn't have to drill holes in my boat.
