Bell sinker on bottom main line to the top
Add a minnow each hook thru the uppper back
Drop down about 12 foot deep or so vertically and set rod down
Watch rod tip closely
A terribly high number of crappie have been had with that rig for ever and ever
I bet that rig is a duplicate of one that’s been around 50 years or more

I got mine personally from Wally Marshall at Grizzly Jig here about a month ago. Went back down there last Saturday and they didn’t have any on the shelf yet. Wally informed me that when I had bought them they had only been out for 4 days.

So I need to wait until I get my boat ready and pick a spot and vertical cast it over the side and watch and wait.

I don't know as I'd refer to that as a "vertical cast", so as not to confuse it with Vertical Casting ( Crappie Pappy Article ) ... though I suppose you "could" use that rig in the Vertical Casting technique.
It is, plainly & simply, a pre-rigged double minnow/live bait setup with wire extenders to keep the baits out away from the central line. It's primary function is to be used with a stationary technique, but can be used in techniques that involve slow movement.
I probably have some of them in my tackle, somewhere, but never got around to using them because it's just as easy to rig a similar setup with loop knots ... and not have any "metal" components in the rigging. And with loop knots, you are more apt to break one of them if you get hung up, whereas with the pre-rigged setup you could lose the entire rig. (not to mention the ability to utilize different hook sizes, a jig & hook, or two jigs when using the loop knot rigging)
What I understand of vertical casting is basically drop it straight down from where you are at. Flip the bail and let it sink. Which could work off a dock too I guess.
I need to learn the loop knot. I only use the palomar and improved clinch knot and need to learn more.

BA... come to the next Crappie meal. I believe it's breakfast, Mar 2d in Sapulpa. Also plan on spending a couple days at Pine Creek in mid to late March. There will be a lot of talent at those get togethers to help you out.

"Vertical Casting" (as I laid it out) is dropping it straight down, but then reeling it back up verrrry slowwwly. Dropping it down & leaving it there is what I refer to as "tightline" fishing, or as my Grandpa called it ... "still fishing" (ie fishing with the rod sitting still/not moving). That was way before rod holders, so our rods were laying on the boat seats of a flat bottom wooden row boat. Might have even called it that because he expected the anglers in the boat to "be still" as well (specifically me ).
