Longer rods are standard for trolling and vertical jigging:

I did buy six of the 12' rods to use with spider rigging.

I get that but what benefit does a long rod have over trolling or vertical jigging over say a 6' rod?

For trolling, you can spread your baits out farther from the boat and cover more water with longer rods.

For vertical jigging, you can stay farther away from structure so as not to spook the fish.

Saw a post on another site that said Academy was marking down clearance items another 50%. I since traffic home was bumper to bumper I made stop at the Garland TX store. Found Mr Crappie baits for $1 a pack. BnM and Mr Crappie jigging poles for $10. They had a few other sweet deals but these two caught my attention. I passed on the rods since I already have 60+. I did buy 25 packs of the Mr Crappie baits. I then stop my local store in Mesquite and found some more Bandit crankbaits for .98. I grab another 12 of them to go with my previous stash. I saw a guy buying a Pelican Predator two man bass boat for $299. I you live near a Academy store please drive over and take a look. There are great deals to be had.

Should by bandits and sell on site . $3.00 would sell many 300 's for sure . Have seen Bandit 100 's for 3 pack 9.00 at Tupelo Academy .

reach. When logs/brush is thick when jigging . Spread when trolling .

The sales must have cleaned out Academy. I ordered a new worm bag for my jigs 2 weeks ago and it hasn't shipped yet.

I stopped by the Academy Outlet store on the way home from work tonight. I picked up some Roadrunner and Mo glo jig heads for .50 a pack. I also got some Panfish Assassin plastics for .25 and .50 a pkg. I picked up a few other items that the made the trip worth it. You would go crazy in their if your a bass plastics guy. They all kind of plastics for .98 or less.

I'm about convinced that the Academy stores here don't do this... Been twice and haven't seen anything really marked down yet...
